IC Engine Event: Radio-Controlled Mini Monster Trucks

The IC Engine event, part of the mechanical section, was aimed at car and engine enthusiasts. The brief was to build a radio-controlled truck powered by a small internal combustion engine and then pit it against others in a rugged contest the organisers called Mini-Monster Truck Madness.

The appeal

The description leaned into the thrill of horsepower, high speed and exhaust noise, and referred to the excitement people feel at V8 and V12 engines. For participants, the technical challenge lay in fitting a power plant, transmission and remote control into a small, sturdy chassis.
