“The one who goes highest..sees the farthest.” We have all been fascinated by a birds-eye view of any area. Be it an urban landscape or an open field. The view from the top gives us an amazing perspective of the happenings on the ground and this has always been one of the best methods for surveying, or keeping a watch on particular spots. Aerial surveillance has been a prime method of intelligence gathering for quite some time. Unmanned aircrafts took surveillance to another level. With the Humminger, we try taking the concept a step further by performing the functions of surveillance and flying as efficiently as possible. The Humminger is a field deployable MAV which can fly like a normal winged aircraft, as well like a helicopter. And this advantage enables it to perform both long and short distance surveillance equally efficiently. It has been designed in a manner which allows it to hover and fly even without its wings. This gives the Humminger the capability to maneuver in the narrow alleys of Mumbai too! The Humminger concept had won the Stage-I of DRDO Students Competition in 2008 and ranked in top 10 of 272 teams across India. It has been lauded by distinguished members of the DRDO and finds applications in fields of defense intelligence gathering, monitoring of sensitive spots in urban or open areas, over-the-hill surveillance, obtaining live intelligence of areas where humans cannot go safely example fires, poison leaks, or even a terrorist attack. With some good tricks up its sleeve, the Humminger is definitely going to create quite a buzz this year! |
